Headteacher's Update 16th October 2026
With the unseasonably warm temperatures this week, it is hard to believe that we are already well into autumn. Our Reception pupils have been out on the Downs exploring and searching for the tell-tale signs of the season. As they returned to school, they eagerly showed me the treasures they had collected in their egg boxes. A particular favourite was the spiralling sycamore seeds, which we all enjoyed watching twirl gently to the ground.
It has been a busy week for our youngest pupils, who were also treated to a visit from the police. Nursery and Reception children had the opportunity to explore a police vehicle and learn about some of the equipment used to help keep our community safe. I was particularly pleased to see that Mrs Cole was safely released following her enthusiastic participation in a police escort demonstration! This was the first of three visits from our public services, with more exciting experiences still to come.
It was a pleasure to welcome so many families to our parent consultation meetings on Tuesday and Thursday this week. We are incredibly grateful for the strong partnership between home and school that we are fortunate to enjoy at King Offa. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for teachers to celebrate pupils’ achievements and discuss the excellent progress being made across the school.
During the latter part of the week, I attended the national conference for school leaders hosted by the Confederation of School Trusts in Birmingham. Alongside fellow Headteachers and members of the Aurora Academies Trust leadership team, I listened to keynote speeches from the Education Secretary and Ofsted's Chief Inspector, Lucy Powell and Sir Martyn Oliver. A particularly thought-provoking session came from Professor Daniel Susskind, who shared insights into the rapidly developing role of artificial intelligence in education and wider society. Reassuringly, it reinforced the fact that the work taking place at King Offa and across our Trust is very much at the forefront of educational development. I look forward to sharing some of these insights with staff and pupils on my return.
We have just one more week to go before the half-term break. I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
